Optimization and application of non-destructive testing technology for pressure vessel welds

Abstract:This paper expounds the application efect of ultrasonic testing technology in the weld inspection of pressure vessels for hydrogenation reactors in refineries.By optimizing the probe parametersand scanning process,an efficient inspection of 15m welds within 3.5 hours was achieved.A total of 32 over-standard defects were actually detected,with a positioning accuracy of ±1mm and a dimensional measurement error of ±0.5 mm. The study found thatlack offusion defects wereconcentrated inthe fusion linearea,slag inclusions were mainlydistributed between weld layers,and acoustic wave interference occurred in the near-bottomarea.The application of this technology has increased the fatigue life of the vessel by more than 40% and reduced the risk grade from ASME Class M to Class I,which verifies its core value in ensuring the safe operation of pressure vessels.
