Research on high-efficiency extraction technology of by-product butadiene in methanol-to-olefins process

Abstract:To optimize the separation technology of crude butadiene produced from oxidative dehydrogenation of byproduct C4 in the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) process,a systematic comparison was conducted on the extraction processes using three solvents : N -methylpyrrolidone(NMP),dimethylformamide(DMF),and acetonitrile(ACN). A procesimulation model was established on the Aspen Plus platform according to the characteristicsof crude butadiene generated from the oxidative dehydrogenationof MTO by-product C4,and theNRTL-RK thermodynamic method was employed to describe the highly non-ideal liquid phase system.The research results showed that under the conditions of achieving 99.6% product purity and over 98.5% recovery rate,the NMP method exhibited obvious advantages,with a unit product energy consumption of only 28.1 GJ/t and a solvent consumption of 0.45kg/t Compared with the DMF and ACN methods,its energy consumption was reduced by about 4% and 6% respectively, and solvent consumption was decreased by 58% and 78% .Economic evaluation indicated that the total investment and annual operating cost of the NMP method were 12% and 18% , 8% and 15% lower than those of the DMF and ACN methods respectively.In adition,the low toxicityand thermal stabilityof NMP solvent presented better performance in terms ofenvironment,health and safety(EHS),making itsuitable for the high-efficiencyseparationof MTO by-product butadiene on an industrial scale.
