Disposal of excessive heavy metals in municipal sewage and chemical sludge based on bioleaching technology

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of excessive heavy metals in the sludge of municipal sewage treatment plants receiving viscose industrial wastewater,a method of bioleaching combined with (quasi-)Fenton reaction was proposed to leach heavy metals from the sludge.In theexperiment,the conditions of the bioleaching stage and the(quasi-) Fenton reaction stage were optimized separately first,and then the heavy metal leaching efect was characterized. Theresults showed thatthe leaching efect of heavy metals fromthe sludge reached the highest when the inoculum size of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans was 10% and the dosage of ferrous sulfate was 8 g/L in the bioleaching stage, and the initial pH value was 2.0 and the dosage of hydrogen peroxide was 8 g/L in the (quasi-) Fenton reaction stage.Under these conditions,the leaching amounts of zinc and copper from the sludge in the sludge storage tank of the municipal sewage treatment plant were 58.7mg/L and 42.7mg/L ,respectively. This method can play a role in the disposal of heavy metals in the sludge of municipal sewage treatment plants.
