Study on rutting and fatigue durability of asphalt mixture pavement in heavy-duty traffic sections

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of rutting deformation and fatigue cracking prone to occur in asphalt mixture pavements of heavy-duty traffc sections,a performance balance design method based on the synergistic regulation of chemical modifierswasproposed.Styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer(SBS),nano-calcium carbonate ( nano-CaCO 3 ) and epoxy modifier were selected as the composite modification system.Through dynamic shear rheometer(DSR)test,multiple stress creep recovery(MSCR)test and four-point bending fatigue test,the influence laws of chemical modifier content on the high-temperature stability,low-temperature crack resistance of asphalt binder as well as the ruting and fatigue resistance of asphalt mixture were systematically studied.Theresults show that when the content of SBS is 4.5% ,nano- .CaCO3 is 3% and epoxy modifier is 1.5% ,the complex shear modulus ( G* )of modified asphalt increases by 32% ,the phase angle(δ)decreases by 18% ,the dynamicstabilityof the mixture reaches 4800 times/ ,and the fatigue life is extended to 2.3×106 times,realizing the synergistic improvement of rutting and fatigue resistance.This study provides a theoretical basis and engineering reference for the application of chemical modification technology in asphalt pavements of heavy-duty traffic sections.
