Preparation and properties of an ultraviolet-resistant SBS modified high-viscosity asphalt mixture

Abstract：To improve the ultraviolet aging resistance of asphalt mixture and extendthe service life of asphalt pavement，the preparation and crack resistance aging performance of SBS modified high-viscosityasphalt mixture under ultraviolet irradiation were studied.Theparameters of base asphaltand SBSmodifier were determined，multiple pieces of equipment were used to achieve uniform mixing of base asphalt and modifier，and SBS modified high-viscosity asphalt mixture was prepared.A self-made ultraviolet aging chamber was adopted for the aging treatment of the mixture，and thechanges of various parameters of the same mixture under diferent treatment durations were tested.Meanwhile，the splitting strengthand rutting test resultsofthe mixture and base asphalt underthesameultraviolet irradiation were compared.Theresults showed that affcted byultraviolet irrdiation，the penetrationand ductility of the mixture decreased significantly with a sharp increase in viscosity；the spliting strength ofthe mixture increased first and then decreased with the extension of irrdiation time，with the maximum value of1.2 MPa. Under theinfluence of iradiation，the rutting test stability showed an increasing trend.Compared with base asphalt，the mixture exhibited better crack resistance and aging performance.
