Correlation Study Between Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Sleep Quality

AbstractObjective:To analye the correlation between meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD)and sleepquality.Methods: A single-centerretrospectivestudywasconducted,colectingpatientswithMGDwhovisitedtheophthalmologyoutpatientclinicof theFirstHospitalofLongyanfromJune2O24 toJune2O25andmetinclusioncriteria.Generalclinicaldata werecolected.Based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),patients with PSQI⩾14 were classified as the sleep disturbance group,and those with PSQI <14 were clasified as the control group. Diferences between the two groups were analyzed to clarify the correlation betwen MGDand sleepquality.Results:A total of3OO MGDpatients were included,with105 in the sleepdisturbance groupand 195 in the control group.There were no significant diferences in gender,age,or disease duration between the groups( P>0.05 ) Thesleepdisturbancegrouphadhighersoresiocularsufacediseaseindex,ornealfluoresceinsaining,yelidmarginoology,meibomianglandscretioncapacity,ndmeibomiansecretionquality,hiletearfilmbreakupimewasshorterandbsaltear secretion scores were lower compared with the control group( P<0.05 ). Conclusion: As sleep quality declines in MGD patients, ocularsurfaceparameterssuchastearfilmbreakuptimeandcorealfluoresceinstainngtendtoworse,eflectingdeterioratioof ocularsurfacehealth.Thiscorelationsuggests thatimprovingsleepqualityinMGDpatients mayhelpoptimizeocularsuface parametersand promoterecoveryofocularsurface health.Sleepdisturbances may exacerbate MGD,adverselyafecting ocularsurface health.
