Abstract: In the field of ancient Chinese mathematics, square root is a very important algorithm that played an irreplaceable role in ancient society's astronomical calendar calculation, architectural construction, land measurement, and other fields. The square root operation runs through the development history of ancient Chinese mathematics, embodying the wisdom of ancient mathematicians, reflecting the deep exploration of quantitative relationships and spatial forms by ancient people, and demonstrating their creativity and logical thinking ability. This paper studies the ancient Chinese mathematical term “square root” and analyzes its concept, origin and development, as well as the mathematical ideas and influences behind it. The aim is to enrich modern mathematics education and provide reference and inspiration for relevant researchers and educators.
