Study on Modal Variants of Russian Causal Coordinate Conjunction u//WANG Wenjie

Abstract: This paper studies the causal relationship and juxtaposition of compound sentences with conjunctions. According to the composition law of causal juxtaposition compound sentences, we have summarized four necessary conditions: consistency, relevance, independence, and reversibility. Conjunctions can not only semantically express the meaning of cause-result, but also have meanings such as opposition-concession, cause-condition, and cause-purpose according to the context. The interaction and fusion of these meanings constitute variants of their modal colors. The subjective modal color is mainly expressed in the juxtaposed compound sentences of causality with conjunctions. Conjunctions can be used in conjunction with certain concrete words to express emphasis and enhance their subjective modal nature. Because the internal semantics of causal juxtaposition compound sentences with conjunctions are more complex and have “concealment”, we often need to judge in combination with the specific context. This kind of semantic variability makes it commonly used in scientific-business language and literary language.
