Comparative Study of Metadiscourse Nouns in Academic English Written and Spoken Discourse// YANG Chen

Abstract: The application of metadiscourse nouns is particularly crucial in academic English written and spoken discourse. Due to the differences in nature and purpose between academic English written and spoken discourse, the use of metadiscourse nouns in these two genres varies significantly and reflects their interpersonal functions. In light of this, the article adopts a three-module approach—conceptual overview, comparative analysis of similarities and differences, and strategy exploration—to focus on comparing and analyzing the commonalities and distinctions in the use of metadiscourse nouns in academic English written and spoken discourse, aiming to standardize the use of metadiscourse nouns in academic English written and spoken discourse.
