A Study on Subtitle Translation from the Perspective of Frame Theory—Taking Ne Zha: Demon Child
Conquers the Sea as an Example//WU Yuhan
Abstract: Excellent subtitle translation allows the audience to seamlessly enjoy a film and, to a certain extent, facilitates the exchange and dissemination of foreign cultures. Taking the film Ne Zha: Demon Child Conquers the Sea as an example, this paper employs the Frame Theory from cognitive linguistics and applies four major translation strategies—literal translation under frame consistency, free translation under frame adjustment, domestication under frame substitution, and foreignization under frame transplantation—to analyze its subtitle translation strategies. The study aims to contribute to subtitle translation research from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
