Abstract: With the rapid development of AI, confusion between the terms “human-computer interaction (HCI)” and “human-AI interaction (HAI)” poses challenges to research and applications. This study compares their differences in connotation, developmental process, and application scenarios, finding that HCI focuses on designing operational interfaces between humans and computer systems, while HAI emphasizes cognitive collaborative relationships between humans and intelligent agents. To address the confusion, it suggests clarifying semantic distinctions, establishing contextual thresholds, and strengthening support for the terminology standard framework. These findings help reduce conceptual confusion in academic communication, provide a reference for formulating relevant technical standards, and are practically significant for promoting the healthy development of the AI industry.
