Normalization of Translation for Crew Alerting System (CAS) Terms//HUANG Dexian, XIAO Xujie

Abstract: The primary function of the crew alert system is to provide crew members with critical information regarding the status of aircraft systems or components. However, the translation of its terms in civil aviation literature remains inconsistent; various laws and regulations, manuals, as well as documents still exhibit confusion, a lack of normalization and systemic inadequacy. This paper proposes that, by referring to the systematicness of the specialized terms used in crew alert systems, a discussion on the translation of terms such as alert, warning, caution, advisory, note, and alarm is warranted. Based on this systematic approach, it is suggested that these terms be translated as 告警, 警告, 警戒, 提示, 注, 警报, to reduce the non-normalized issues that currently persist in civil aviation term translation.
