Analysis of Vocabulary Characteristics and Semantic Crossover of Business English in the Context of New Liberal Arts//SUN Yuxia

Abstract: Against the backdrop of the New Liberal Arts, the vocabulary system of Business English has changed due to cross-domain integration. Its characteristics and semantic intersections are crucial for enhancing communication efficiency and promoting disciplinary development. Business English vocabulary shows compounding, abbreviating and conversion in word formation; professionalism, polysemy and dynamic expansibility in semantics; and formality, industry-specificity and cultural adaptability in pragmatics. Semantic crossover exists between business sub-fields and interdisciplinary fields such as cross-cultural communication and sustainable development. Globalization, the concept of New Liberal Arts and emerging business formats are the main causes, which not only enrich connotations and promote integration, but also bring challenges such as ambiguous understanding and increased learning difficulty.
