Abstract: In the new era advocating New Liberal Arts, English undergraduate education in private colleges of China is witnessing challenges and opportunities. This paper takes Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College as an example, introducing its reform in the course of Provincial First-Class Discipline Construction, which is characterized by integration of culture, digital intelligence oriented practice and great importance attached to cultivation of critical thinking.
