Abstract: The categorized cultivation of master's students in education is a crucial measure for the connotative development of graduate education in China. Based on a questionnaire survey of 385 master's students in education, this study employed latent profile analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis to identify four latent categories of competency development: comprehensive, academic, professional, and underdeveloped, with the comprehensive type being the most prevalent. The study also examined the impact pathways of academic support on different types of competency development. Among the dimensions of academic support, faculty mentoring performed the best, while financial support and research practice support were relatively weak. Three aspects of academic support-off-campus practice, participation in research projects, and engagement in professional competitions-significantly promoted the competency development of the professional-type group, with off-campus practice having a more pronounced effect. The findings provide empirical evidence for optimizing the categorized cultivation system for master's students in education and refining the structure of academic support.
