Abstract: Top-notch talent training in marine sciences plays a crucial role in serving the strategy for building a strong maritime nation, with maritime practice being an integral component. This study examines the significance of practical experience in cultivating talents in marine sciences, encompassing the integration of theory and practice, fostering interdisciplinary research capabilities, nurturing an exploratory spirit and scientific literacy, as well as stimulating interest in scientific research and innovation potential. Furthermore, this study presents an overview of current practices within three national Marine science top-notch talent training bases while identifying existing issues pertaining to marine activities. To comprehensively enhance the quality of marine science talent development and contribute to the strategy for building a strong maritime nation, countermeasures are proposed including strengthening base construction, optimizing curriculum systems, promoting interaction between scientific research and teaching, and reinforcing ideological education.
