Abstract: The course of Gene Engineering occupies a central position in the curriculum system of the biotechnology major and plays an essential role in students' professional growth and career planning. To create a model for professional courses in biotechnology, a comprehensive teaching reform and practice have been carried out for Gene Engineering course from aspects such as teaching content, experimental system, teaching methods, ideological and political elements, and teaching evaluation. The practice of teaching reform in the course of Gene Engineering has shown that it significantly improved students' interactivity, participation, and innovative abilities, which can provide a reference for cultivating high-quality talents with innovative spirit and practical abilities in the field of biotechnology.
