Abstract: Cognition practice is an important link in the practical teaching of civil engineering specialty. In order to cultivate infrastructure construction talents with all-round development of morality, wisdom, willpower, civilized quality and labor skills in the new era, it is necessary to combine professional education with ideological and political education. According to the characteristics of civil engineering, we dig deep ideological and political elements in the cognition practice teaching, design the path to realize the ideological and political value goal of the course, and teach professional history, intelligent construction, engineering ethics and other aspects in the way of classroom lectures and on-site visits, so as to shape students' professional feelings, national pride, engineering thinking, innovative thinking, social responsibility and lifelong learning ability. Through careful teaching organization, ideological and political elements have been fully reflected in the cognitive practice class, and the teaching evaluation results show that the curriculum objectives of civil engineering cognition practice have achieved good results. The scientific design of civics education in civil engineering cognition practice is conducive to promoting the construction of "golden course" of practical courses.
