Abstract: Research-oriented teaching is an important means for improving the level of innovative talent cultivation. Principle of Communications is an important specialized fundamental course for electronic information majors in college of engineering. Based on the characteristics of course teaching, the significance of implementing research-oriented teaching in the course of Principle of Communications is discussed, and specific measures for the research-oriented teaching reforms in specialized fundamental courses are proposed. These measures include optimizing the course structure, updating the teaching contents, integrating diversified research-oriented teaching methods, and designing practical teaching contents for the courses. A comprehensive research-oriented teaching reform scheme covering the entire teaching process has been designed, and a course assessment and evaluation method that examines knowledge mastery, learning ability, application and innovation capabilities has been established, which holds certain reference value for the talent cultivation of communication engineering and course construction in colleges and universities.
