Abstract: In the era where majors are paramount, high-quality major construction can make majors stand out in fierce competition and promote their development to a higher level. In view of the problems existing in the current professional construction of private colleges and universities, such as the disconnection between talent training and social needs, unclear orientation of training objectives, weak practical teaching links, lack of in-depth cooperation between industry, education and research, lagging faculty construction and imperfect evaluation system, this paper, taking the exploration of professional construction of the Computer College of Guangdong University of Science and Technology as an example, puts forward the major construction idea of "demand oriented, quality based, student-centered, and industry and education oriented", and promotes the development of the specialty to a higher level by thoroughly implementing the education policy of the CPC, closely connecting the national strategy and the needs of regional economic development, adhering to standards to lead characteristic school running, and deepening the integration of industry and education. From the perspective of implementation effect, it has been proven that the exploration and practice of the college in professional construction are effective. The proposal of this construction idea provides certain experience and reference for promoting the development of higher education of China..
