Analysis of Risk Characteristics of Typical Operating Conditions for Intelligent Driving in Complex Traffic Scenarios

【Abstract】This study is grounded in the publicly accessbledata from the NHTSA Autonomous Vehicle Accident Reports spanning from 2021-2025[1] . It undertakes a risk characteristic analysis of typical operating conditions of intelligent driving withincomplex trafcscenarios.Specificaly,thretypicaloperatingconditionsareinvestigated: intersections,ig density scenarios,and mixed-driving scenarios.Riskcharacteristics are extracted,andthecausesof accidents areanalyzed in depth.Theresearchreveals thatdistinctoperating conditionsexhibituniquerisk patterns.Forthe intersectionoperating condition,thecriticalrisk factors include non-compliant behaviorssuchasrunningredlightsand making ilegal turns. In the high-density traffc lane changing operating condition,the primaryrisk factors are insufficient vehicle spacing and frequentlanechanging maneuvers.Inthe lanechanging operatingconditionof the mixeddriving scenario,therisk factors are attributed tothebehavioral disparities between humandrivenandautonomous vehicles.This researchofers data support andadecision-making foundationforenhancing thesafetyofintellgentdriving incomplex traffc scenarios.Itisconducive to making targeted improvements to intelligent driving algorithmsand traffic management strategies.
