Abstract: The introduction of sulfurinto polymer backbone can not only improve the properties of many polymers,such as self-healing properties,adsorptionofheavy metalions,etc,but alsosolvetheproblemofserioussulfuraccumulation, which is a very promising method for depleting sulfur.I this paper,the basic principles ofsynthesis ofsulfur-containing polymers by sulfur were introduced based on the three mechanisms of elemental sulfur ring-opening includingfree radical mechanism above a certain temperature,nucleophilic mechanismand electrophilic mechanism.The research progressof preparationofsulfur-containing polymers by inverse vulcanization ofunsaturated compounds and sulfur and the multi-component polymerization methodof amine-catalyzed mechanism was discussed.The advantages and disadvantages of various processes for the synthesis of sulfur-containing polymers based on elemental sulfur were summarized. Finally, the future research direction was prospected.
