Abstract: TiO2 nanoparticles were chemically modified with polyisobutylene succinimide (PIBSI). Various characterization methods,such as thermogravimetric analysis (TG),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), lipophilicity and contact angle tests,were used to evaluate the changes of TiO2 nanoparticles before and after modification.The results showed that the carboxyl group of PIBSIchelated with the hydroxyl group on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles in a bidentate manner, which changed the surface property from hydrophilic to hydrophobic,and the degree of lipophilicity was increased to 44% ,so that the modified TiO2 had better dispersion stability in organic solvents. The photodegradation experiment results of methylene blue (MB) showed thatthe degradation rate of unmodified TiO2 (2号 was about 90% ,however the photocatalytic degradation efficiencies of modified TiO2 with m(TiO2):m(PIBSI)=8:2 0 9:1 and 9.5:0.5 were 25.08% 53.44% and 58.38% ,respectively, which were concluded that the modified agent greatly inhibited the photocatalytic activity of TiO2
