The Cross-System Transcription of Initial Consonants in Chinese: The Phonetic Notation Practice in Chinese Conversation Books on the Korean Peninsula in the Early 2Oth Century//BAI Lu

Abstract:Basedofifteentextbooksasthecorpus,thispapersortsoutthephoneticnotationsystemofinitialconsonantsandfinds thatitgeerallfollowsteprincipleof“syllbificationandonecharacteronesound”,ndadoptsstrategiessuchas“substitutionof similaround,ersidpresetationdseofcntsbols”.oatiofilaballardeloud lystable,hiletatofpalatal,etroflexandalveolarsoundsisdiverse.Consoants withodrectquvalet,schs“”and“fare often markedwithancient symbolsofthe Koreanphoneticsystem.Thephonetic notationsystemnotonlyserves practicalleaningbut alsorflectstheawarenessofthelanguagesystemandthenationalculturalstance.Overall,thesematerialsprovideimportant referencesforthestudyofthehistoryof Chinesephonetics,languagecontactbetween ChinaandKoreaandcros-linguisticponetic teaching.
