How Sin Chew Daily Reflects Mainstream Values in Malaysia

—A Case Study of Relevant Reports from 2023 to 2024

Abstract： “Malaysia MADANI” is the mainstream value advocated by the current Malaysian government. Focusing on Sin Chew Daily， the most widely read Chinese-language media in Malaysia， this paper employs quota-based purposive sampling by selecting 100 reports as samples. Through three-dimensional discourse analysis， it reveals that Sin Chew Daily excels in reflecting the concept of kindness but falls short in reporting trust and creativity. Among Chinese-Malaysian netizens， emotional expressions are most abundant in social and sports news， while feedback on political and educational news primarily consists of criticism and satire. Recommendations include emphasizing inter-ethnic trust in reporting guidelines， increasing coverage of creative news， and reducing the use of inflammatory headlines to avoid triggering negative sentiments toward the nation， society， and other ethnic groups among Chinese-Malaysian netizens. In terms of content production， Chinese-language media should prioritize managing social media accounts and increasing the proportion of high-quality short videos.
