Abstract: To evaluate the fire-extinguishing effectiveness of non-pressurized suspended ultra-fine dry powder extinguishing devices (with 90% of the powder particles ⩽ 15 μ m) in suppressing fires within the nacelle of a wind turbine (including both the nacelle space and the area beneath the nacelle base plate) after undergoing environmental tests such as high temperature, low temperature, vibration, and damp heat, a 50 m 3 fire test chamber was constructed to conduct Class B fire tests. The test also took into account fire scenarios beneath the nacelle base plate and obstructed conditions inside the nacelle. A metal cover plate was placed 20 cm directly above the oil pan to simulate an obstruction, and a metal baffle (20 cm×20 cm in size) was positioned 20 cm below and to the side of the nozzle of the non-pressurized suspended ultra-fine dry powder extinguishing device. After these environmental tests, the startup performance, discharge performance, and fire-extinguishing performance of the devices were tested. The results showed that the non-pressurized suspended ultra-fine dry powder extinguishing devices could start and discharge normally after exposure to high temperature, low temperature, vibration, and damp heat environments, with no adverse impact on their fire-extinguishing performance, and successfully extinguished the fires.
