Abstract：Thispapersystematicallyreviews theresearch progressofrockfracturesizeefectfromthreeaspects：experiment， theoryandnumericalsimulation.Intermsofexperimentalresearch，itwasfoundthatthestaticfracturetoughnessincreases nonlinearlywiththeincreaseofspecimensize，whilethedynamicfractureisafectedbytheloadingrate，andthetoughnes increaseswiththeincreaseofstrainrate.Thesizeefectwasexplainedfromdiferentperspectivesthroughthreetheoretical studies.Intermsofnumericalsimulation，theefectivenessofdiscreteelementsandfiniteelementsinstudyingthesizeeffectof rocksisdemonstrated，ndthedominantroleofheterogeneityandfractureprocesszone（PZ）inthesizeefectisilustrated. Finaly，thefactorsinfluencingthefracturesizefectofrocksaswellastheexistingproblemsandsolutionswerediscused.
