Abstract:The modernization of theeconomyisinfluenced by various factors.In modern China,theinitiationofeconomicmodernizationwasdrivenbyexternal forces.From1905tol936，foreveryone-unitchangein imports,thelevel of monetization changed in the same direction by O.18 units.However,the progress of economicmodernizationinmodernChina primarilydependedondomesticfactors.Themaintargetvariableofthe government’s macroeconomic policy was investment,which was mainly influenced bymoney supply and imports. Imports，inturn，wereprimarilyaffectedbyexportsandremittances fromoverseasChinese.Toachieveeconomic modernization，the government needed precise control over monetary policy，trade(imports and exports)，andoverseas Chineseremittances.However,itisevidentthat neitherthelate Qing government，the Beiyang government，nor the Nanjing government possessed such capabilities.
