Abstract:The ecological risks of microplastics (MPs) pollution in aquaculture environments have garneredwidespread concern. However, under the context of global warming, the impact of temperature changes on the toxicity of MPs remains poorly understood. In this study, Apostichopus japonicus was exposed to polypropylene(PP) MPs at concentrations of 0,10,10o,and 1000μg/L for 28 days under different temperatures(16,21,and 26∘C ).The toxic effects on the intestine were evaluated across multiple biological levels, including feeding and defecation rates, tissue structure, and enzyme activities. The results showed that at 26∘C ,MPs exposure significantly inhibited the feeding and defecation rates of A . japonicas, which may be mediated by temperature-induced acceleration of MPs uptake, leading to structural damage to intestinal tissue and a reduction in digestive enzyme activities. Furthermore,MPs induced oxidative stress in the organisms. Under elevated temperature, the significant inhibition of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) activities indicated that high temperature further increased the level of oxidative stress. In summary, rising temperatures exacerbate the toxicity of MPs to A. japonicas, highlighting that temperature changes should be taken into account when assessing the ecological risks of MPs.
