Composition with Color Block Division： Taking David Hockney's Swimming Pool Series Paintingsas an Example

Abstract：David Hockney's Swimming Polseriesisoneof theimportantrepresentativesoffigurativepainting inthelate 0th century.，usingcolor block divisioncomposition toredefinethe space and visualrhythmofthe picture.This paper takes "Bigger Splash"，"PortraitofanArtist （PoolandTwoPortraits）"and"SunPoo"astheresearchojects，ndexploresthespeiicuseof color block segmentation intheircreations.Firstly，theconcept andmethod frameworkofcolorblock segmentationcomposition aredefined.Then，thecolorstructureandpsychologicaleffectsofthemaincolorfield，secondarycolorfieldandaccentcolor inthepoolseriesareanalyzed.Finalytheshematicreprsentationofwaterisdisussedandthemetaphoricalcootation ofquadraticsegmentationis explained.Research shows that Hockney transforms theeverydaysceneof thepoolintoavisual structurethatisothecorativeandspatial，skilfullyblendingrealisticandabsractelements throughrationalandsnsualcolor block choreography.
