Centralized Treatment Technology for VOCs Waste Gas from Petrochemical Enterprise Wastewater Treatment Plants

Abstract: Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) pollution sources in the wastewater treatment plant of a petrochemical enterprise in Hubei were monitored and analyzed. Based on the characteristics of each pollution source, the emissions were categorized into three streams: high mass concentration exhaust gas, medium mass concentration exhaust gas, and low mass concentration exhaust gas from the IBR tank. By classifying and pretreating exhaust gases of different mass concentrations before centralized advanced treatment, a complete combined process of "low-temperature diesel absorption-alkali washing desulfurization-desulfurization and total hydrocarbon concentration homogenization-regenerative thermal oxidation" has been developed. At first, high mass concentration exhaust gas enters the low-temperature diesel absorption tower to recover oil and gas resources and remove most sulfides, then proceeds to the alkali washing tower to eliminate residual hydrogen sulfide. Subsequently, it mixes with pretreated medium mass concentration exhaust gas and enters the desulfurization and total hydrocarbon concentration homogenization tank to stabilize the mass concentration. And then, low mass concentration exhaust gas from the IBR tank is introduced for mass concentration adjustment before finally entering the "regenerative thermal oxidation" unit for deep oxidation. Long-term operation results demonstrate that the process operates stably, with the non-methane total hydrocarbon mass concentration at the total discharge outlet consistently below 20 mg·m -3 and removal rate≥97%. Indicators such as benzene, toluene, xylene, and hydrogen sulfide all meet the design requirements of relevant domestic standards, achieving effective centralized treatment and near-zero emissions of VOCs exhaust gas from the petrochemical wastewater treatment plant.
