Abstract: Sulfur, as a by-product of petroleum refining, has an excess of reserves and faces significant environmental storage pressure. Its efficient conversion has attracted considerable attention. The inverse vulcanization technology uses sulfur as the main raw material and combines it with olefin crosslinking agents to prepare high-sulfur polymers, providing a new approach for the sustainable utilization of sulfur resources. In this article, characteristics of the inverse vulcanization reaction were introduced as well as the research progress of inverse vulcanization polymer materials in the fields of heavy metal adsorption, optics, self-healing materials, batteries, and antibacterial agents, and the future development prospect of inverse vulcanization polymer materials was put forward.
