A Study of the Hongwu Vernacular Commemorative Stele at the Kong Fu （Kong Family Mansion） in Qufu

Abstract：A stele inscribed with the“Dialogue betwen Zhu Yuanzhangand Kong Kejianand Kong Xixue”standsbesidethe second gateoftheKongFuinQufuItsextrecords thedialoguebetwentwoYanshengGongandMingTaizu（thefoundingemperoroftheMing Dynasty）ZuYuanang.However，thteledoesotecodheiformationsuchsitsrection，cligaprandthrsnditswit tenintheveracularof thetimewithmissngcontentintheupperpart，whichisquitequestioable.Bycomparing theinscriptiosofthis stelewiththetextsrecording thesameeventinotherdocuments，itcanbeinferredthathestelemayhavebenerectedbyKong Xixue. Besidesmanifestingtheimperialfvorandadmonishingthedescendants，thepurposeoferectingthestelealsoincludesthreflectionof theYanshengGongfamilyonhowtorelyontheimperialcourttopreservethefamilyduringtheYuan-Mingtransition.Meanwhile，with therecordsofthestele，wecanre-examinetheuniquegroupof“Yuan Yimin（adherentsoftheYuanDynasty）”，andseethefeaturesof the ideological trend of the times from the identity of Yansheng Gong.
