An Analysis of Laozi' s Concept of Junzi （the Gentleman） and Its Contemporary Value

Abstract：Laozi’sthoughthashadasignificantinfluenceonthegestationanddevelopmentoftheimageoftheJunziintraditional Chineseculture.Fromtheperspectiveofthe“Dao”，LaozibelievedthattheJunzi，livingintheworld，shouldZunDaoMingchang（flow theDaotounderstandteconstant），YituiWeijin（dvancebyretreating），QingingWuwei（maintainlarityandtranquilityrogho action），QianxiaBuzheng（behumbleandrefrainfromcontention），andGuishenAiming（valuethebodyandcherishlife）．InthecontemporaryeraLaozi’oncptofJunioldssigiicantvae.Ipersoalclivatiointepesoalinteractioandcialgoveaee shouldtaketheprinciplesof“Qianxia Buzheng”and“Guisheniming”ascriteria，whichremindpeopletoactwithmodesty，dligence， frugality，ndvodanceoftravgane.Theprcipleof“ZunDonghangdvocatesonstiteractionndpromotessiitoffi ness.Theprinciplesof“Yitui Weijin”and“ShangshanRuoshui （thehighestgoodislikewater）”guidepeopletotreatothersgentlyand jointly build a harmonious society.
