Abstract：Food security is the cornerstone of national security.Agricultural insurance，serving as a “stabilizer”and“catalyst” for mitigating agricultural risks and stabilizing farmers’income，acts as a "ballast”for maintaining food security.This paperutilizes provincial panel datafrom 3l provinces spanning2008to2022，employing the entropy methodtomeasurethelevel offood security.Afixed-effectsmodel isappliedtoempiricallyanalyzetheimpactand mechanisms ofagriculturalinsuranceon food security.The findingsareasfollows：First，thedensity，breadth，anddepthofagriculturalinsurance haveapositiveeffect on food security.Second，Theimpact ofagricultural insuranceon food securityexhibits spatial heterogeneity：itpromotesfood securityinboth majorgrain-producingareasandgrainproduction-consumptionbalanced regions，withthe effect diminishing sequentially.Conversely，it hasanegative impact on food securityinmajor grain-consuming regions.Third，Scaleoperationexhibitsathresholdeffectintheprocessof agricultural insurance safeguarding food security.When the operational scale exceeds 1.7709 hectares，the positive impact of agricultural insuranceon food securityis2.8lto4.91times greater than whenthe scale is below this threshold.Based onthese findings，policy recommendations are proposed，including enhancing thelevelof agricultural insurance coverage，transitioning towardincome insurance，implementingregionallydifferentiated insurance policies，and encouraginglfarmers to expand their operational scale.
