Abstract: Compared withconventional hydropower stations,pumped storage power stations (PSPS)typically have the characteristicsofhigherhydraulic heads,smalerreservoircapacities,andmore frequentoperationalcycles.Sedimentissues directlyimpactturbineperformance,plantlayout,andeffectivereservoirstorage.Thispaperreviews thestandardization of sediment design of hydropower projects since the199Os and the design for thePSPS sincetheearly 200s.The paper analyzes the characteristics of sediment in PSPS engineering projects,academic hotspotsand handling methods in engineeringpractice.Itintroduces theoriginofthePSPStechnicalstandardssystemandthebackgroundofthe project initiationandmaincontentsofNB/T11671-2024,GuideforSediment DesignofPumped StoragePowerStations.As the firststandarddedicatedtosedimentdesignofthePSPS,NB/T11671-2O24playsacriticalroleinensuringthefunctional effciency and long-term operational safety of the PSPS,which is of increasingly importance at present.
