Abstract: Inliterary writing,colour haslong beentreatedasasubsidiarycomponentvisualrepresentation,withitsontological significanceconsistentlymarginaliedTakingthcolourdiscourseinCanXue'sfctionsastartingpoint,thispapersysteatialy examines theshiftincolourtheory fromessntialistapproachestophenomenologicalandlanguage-gameparadigms,drawingon theoreticalperspectivesfromarthstoryphenomenologyandtheplosophylanguage.Troughanaalysisolourtories advancedbyuressucsoadodViciotheHuerl,erea-Ptydienstein,spperrgustaloa nolongerbeuderstoodasapassiverepresentationbjectiveptics.Rather,itfunctionsasa“phenomenologicalfoldinwich subjectand worldare mutuallonstituted,andfurther,asaitewherepowerdisciplines meaningandmeaning,intunevades suchdiscipline within language games.The fantasticalcolour imagery in Can Xue's novels exemplifiesthis paradigmatichift reconfiguringthe ontological standing colour inliterature throughsensory transgression and grammatical deviation.
