Abstract： This paper systematically sorts out the evolution，chemical compositions， preparation processes，and aging mechanisms ofcommonred lake pigments in19th-century oil paintings.Byenumerating multiple oil paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Pierre-AugusteRenoir，itconfirms theinevitabilityof theagingofredlakepigments inthe19th centuryand its rewritingof theauthenticityofthe works'colors.Studying the degradationofred lake pigmentscan notonlycorrect the misinterpretations of some Impressonist worksbylater scholars butalsoupholdtheoriginal appearance of artworks and historical truth.
