Study on the capture efficiency of different mesh-sized fyke nets on forage fish in freshwater ponds

Abstract:To investigate and analyze the capture efficiency of fyke nets with different mesh sizes on forage fish in freshwater ponds in a certain area of Guangxi. The nested一net method was employed conduct capture eficiency experiments on forage fish using fyke nets with varying mesh sizes. The results indicate that the mesh size of fyke nets directly influences their capture efficiency for forage fish in freshwater ponds. Fyke nets with mesh sizes ranging from 40 to 60mm exhibited an escape rate of approximately 80% ,demonstrating a significant release effect. In contrast,fyke nets with a 50mm mesh size showed relatively higher capture efficiency for forage fish,representing a balance point between ecological benefits and economic gains. Therefore,such nets can be continuously applied and promoted in future forage fish capture operations.
