Impact of continuous flue-cured tobacco cultivation and its improvement measures

AbstractThis paper systematicallreviewed theefects of continuous flue-cured tobacco cultivation on the soil， flue-cured tobacco growth，and leaf yieldandquality，and theimprovement measures forallviating continuous croppingobstacles were summarized.It was found thatcontinuous flue-cured tobaccocultivation led toan imbalance of soil nutrient elements，soilcompaction，adeclinein microbialcommunitydiversityaggravated pests and diseases，and delayed nitrogen conversionandorganic mater decomposition.Consequently，the growth and developmentof tobacco plants were affected，andboth theyieldand intrinsic qualityof tobacco leaves were reduced.Inresponse to the above impacts，corresponding improvement measures were proposed.First，rotation and intercropping were implemented.By rotating with crops suchasrice and maize，or intereropping with Isatis indigotica，soil structure wasimproved，pests and diseases were reduced，and an integrated “tobacco + N”industrial development model was established. Second， soil testingandformulated fertilizationwereadopted.Basedonsoil tests，fertilizerswerescientificallyproportionedto enhance fertilizer use eficiency and tobacco leaf quality.Third，winter ploughing andsun-drying were conducted. Through deep ploughing in winterand subsequent freeze-thaw action，soil clods were broken，permeability was increased，pests werekilld，andorganicmatterdecompositionwaspromoted.Fourthorganicfertilizerssuchasgeen manure and oilseed cake were applied.Theseamendments improved soil physicochemical properties，increased organic matterand nutrient content，and enhanced enzyme activityand microbial activity.Fifth，soil conditioners were used to regulate soil pH，increase nutrients，and improve soil structure.This review provides a reference for the sustainable production of flue-cured tobacco.
