Comprehensive evaluation of fruit traits of 5 species of Carya illinoinensis

AbstractTo explore the growth and development patterns as wellas economic characteristicsof thefruits of the Caryaillnoinensis,thispaperused5varietiesofCaryailinoinensis,namelyJinhua (JH),Mahan (MH),Stuart (ST), Pawnee (BN),andYalin21(YL21),as theresearch materials.Changes in fruit length and width wereanalyzed,and indicators suchasfresh fruitweight,dryfruit weight,and kernelweightfordifferentvarieties were measured.Theresults showedthat thefruit lengthand widthof the5typesofCaryaillinoinensis reached theirmaximumin September.The fruit lengths were 42.,72.4,42.4,59.9and54.9mm respectively,and thefruit widths were 29.1,35.1,30.9,37.7and 31.1 mmrespectively.The fruits rapidly expanded in late June and early August,and then basically stopped growing after mid-September.The kernel weightof BNwasthelargest,at 6.95g,andthe kernel extractionrate was good with a low shrunkenrate.Overall,the single fruit weight of BN is excellent,witha high kernel yieldandalowrate of emptyor shriveled fruits.It is an ideal choice for orchard cultivation.
