Analysis of Characteristics of SONG Ruohui in Diagnosing and Treating Chronic Rhinosinusitis

AbstractChronicrhinosinusitisisa common disease in otorhinolaryngology.Western medicine mainly treats itwithsymptomaticdrug therapy and surgical intervention.Professor SONG Ruohui believes that this diseaseiscausedbyinsuficiencyof the body’s healthyqi，invasion byexternal pathogens，resulting in internalheat intheviscera，whichsteamsbody fluids intophlegmand nasal discharge，blocking the meridians andimpeding the flowofqiand blood.If itisnotcuredforalong time，the pathogenic factors willingerand graduallyaffct thespleenandkidneys，causing their deficiencyandleading tothe disease. Itispointedoutthat thedisease islocatedinthelungs，butiscloselyrelatedtotheliver，galbladder， spleen and kidneys. Therefore，in terms of etiology，Professor SONG emphasizes that the lungsand liver-gallbladdershouldbeheldprimarilyresponsible toclarifythesourceof pathogenicfactors，follwed byexaminationof the deficiency or excess of the spleenand kidneys to judge thechanges in the condition， andthen exploration of the nature of the pathogenic factors，whether theyarecold or hot，and theirseverity. In treatment，Professor SONG advocates treating the galbladder and lungs simultaneously，using both clearing and promoting methods;coling the blood and promoting blood circulation，eliminating dampness and reducing swellng;tonifying qi and strengthening the body's foundation，whilealso taking into accountyinand blood.In clinical practice，Professor SONG applies flexible andadaptable methods，treating each patient individually.Heusesthe Xin'an BiyanFormula（新安 鼻炎方）as the basic prescription，and modifies it totreat chronic rhinosinusitis，achieving remarkable results.One test case is attached.
