LIU Likun's Experience in Treating Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Mahuang Shengma Decoction（麻黄升麻汤）

AbstractThisarticle summarizes Professor LIU Likun’sexperience in treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma withMahuang Shengma Decoction（麻黄升麻汤）．Itis believed that thisdisease ischaracterized by deficiency of bothqi andyinas therootcause，with phlegm，bloodstasis，heatand toxinsas the manifestations. Thekey totreatment liesintonifyingqi，nourishing yin and strengthening the body’sresistance，while addressing thepathological factorsofphlegm，blood stasis，heat，andtoxin.Basedonclinical experience，it isbelieved that theMahuang Shengma Decoction，which combines cold and heat and has the functionsof tonifyingdeficiencyand clearing excess，preciselyalignswith thepathogenesisof nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Inclinical practice，Mahuang Shengma Decoctionisusedasthe basisfor treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma. According to the patient’scondition on deficiency and excess，the proportion of heat-clearing and warming medicinals in the formula is adjusted.Basedon the degree of the patient’s pathogenicqi stagnation，the dosage of Mahuang（Ephedrae Herba）is skilfullyused.Basedonclinical symptoms，channels-based differentiationand treatment is given，and the dosageof each medicinal isadjusted according to the syndrome to achieve theeffcts of promoting the circulation，relieving obstructionand depresion，and regulating coldand

heat simultaneously，tonifying deficiency and clearing excess，and treating both symptoms and root causes. One test case isattached.
