Diagnostic Value of Serum Gastric Function on the Degree of Gastric Mucosal Atrophy

in Patients with Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Abstract: Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of serum gastric function in the degree of gastric mucosal atrophy in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection. Methods A total of 121 patients who tested positive for Helicobacter pylori at Tongcheng People's Hospital from April 2023 to April 2024 were enrolled as study subjects. All patients underwent gastroscopy and serum gastric function testing. Based on their endoscopic gastric mucosal findings, patients were classified according to the Kimura-Takemoto classification and divided into three groups: C1-C2 group, C3-O1 group, and O2-O3 group. The serum levels of pepsinogen (PG) I, PG II, gastrin-17 (G-17), and the pepsinogen ratio (PGR) were compared among the three groups. Results There were no statistically significant differences among the three groups in terms of age, sex, education level, place of residence, BMI, or history of alcohol consumption (P>0.05). Statistically significant differences were observed among the three groups in serum gastric function markers, including PG I, PG II, G-17, and PGR (P<0.05). Specifically, compared with the C1-C2 group, the C3-O1 and O2-O3 groups showed decreased PG I and PGR levels, and increased PG II and G-17 levels (P<0.05). Compared with the C3-O1 group, the O2-O3 group showed decreased PG I and PGR levels, and increased G-17 levels (P<0.05). Conclusion Serum gastric function reflects the changes of gastric mucosal function and state in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection through multiple dimensions. Its combined application can improve the diagnostic accuracy of gastric mucosal atrophy and provide a basis for risk stratification of gastric cancer.
