Development status and strategy analysis of “Forest Granary” in Liangshan Prefecture

Abstract This article elaborated on the advantages of forest land resources, the current status of “forest grain” production, and the development models of the underforest economy in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province, as well as the resource potential and market prospects for the construction of the “Forest Granary”. It also analyzed areas that require improvement in the development of the “Forest Granary” and proposed corresponding development strategies. The study area has prominent advantages in forest land resources, having established 1.04 million hectares of characteristic forestry industry bases covering multiple models such as forest-based medicinal herbs, forest-grown fungi, and forest-grown vegetables. It produces 1.5 million tons of “forest grain” annually, with a rich variety of related forest products and growing market demand. However, further improvements are needed in areas such as industrial structure, technological level, market system, and the balance between resource protection and industrial development. To this end, the following development strategies are proposed: optimize the industrial structure and cultivate new economic growth points by deeply integrating forest wellness with cultural tourism industries, exploring forestry carbon trading, and supporting the deep processing of forest products; enhance the quality of forestry industry development by increasing investment in science and technology, cultivating talent, and improving promotion and extension systems; strengthen the competitiveness of the forestry market by developing a market circulation system, building brands, and improving socialized services; and establish a concept of sustainable development to harmonize the relationship between forest resource protection and forestry industry development. This article provides a reference for agricultural and forestry industries development in related regions.
