Degradation characteristics of different types of fully biodegradable films and their effects on foxtail millet yield

Abstract To clarify the degradation characteristics of different types of fully biodegradable films and their effects on dry matter accumulation and yield of foxtail millet, Jingu No.21 was used as the material, and 4 treatments were set up: black fully biodegradable permeable plastic film (T1), white fully biodegradable film (T2), black fully biodegradable film (T3), and ordinary plastic film (CK). The degradation characteristics of each treatment's plastic film, dry matter accumulation, and yield of foxtail millet were compared and analyzed. The results showed that in terms of the degradation characteristics of plastic film, the degradation rate of fully biodegradable film was significantly better than that of ordinary plastic film; T1 had the fastest degradation rate, T2 and T3 had faster degradation rates, and CK did not degrade. In terms of dry matter accumulation and yield of foxtail millet, compared with CK, the 3 types of fully biodegradable plastic film mulching significantly increased the dry matter accumulation and yield of foxtail millet. The dry matter accumulation, number of ears, thousand grain weight, ear weight, and yield of foxtail millet treated with T1 were the highest at 120 days after emergence, with values of 48.69 g/plant, 546 900 ears/hm², 3.03 g, 24.12 g, and 5 834.26 kg/hm², respectively. In summary, it is recommended to use black fully biodegradable permeable plastic film in the cultivation and production of dryland millet in Shanxi, which can reduce environmental pollution while ensuring yield.
