Abstract This study focused on the planning and practice of edible plant landscapes in the streets and alleys of mountain villages. It systematically analyzed the current planning status of plant landscapes in the rural streets and alleys of Beijing, the common edible plant resources within the region, and their application forms in the landscape. Additionally, it conducted a practical design of edible plant landscapes in the street green spaces of Changyu Cheng Village in Changping District, Beijing. There is room for further improvement in the plant landscape planning of the mountain villages in the study area, mainly in aspects such as tree species selection, scientific management, and planting planning. To some extent, this may affect the quality and efficiency of the street and alley landscapes. These deficiencies affected the overall quality and comprehensive benefits of street landscapes to a certain extent. These issues have restricted the quality and efficiency of the street and alley landscapes. The plant resources in this area are abundant. Based on the three core dimensions of plant usage function, edible parts, and viewing seasons, edible plants can be systematically classified. The landscape application forms include hedge-like, pergola-like, wall-like, cantilever-like, border-like, strip-like, planting pool-like, and potted plant-like configurations, among others. In addition, the green space in the streets and alleys of Changyu Cheng Village in Changping District, Beijing, can be classified into 4 types: main street type, secondary street type, lane type, and entrance type. By integrating the core elements such as buildings and roads within the area, edible plant landscapes are created to build a rural street and alley landscape with local cultural heritage, achieving the organic unity of ecological, ornamental and productive functions.
