Abstract In view of the deficiencies existing in the current teaching of Forage Production Science, including pre-class introduction modes, key teaching focuses, classroom interaction and pre-assessment feedback, as well as the connection with extracurricular practice, this study carried out teaching reform based on the BOPPPS model. It implemented targeted reforms in the 6 core components of classroom instruction, namely Bridge, Objective, Pre-assessment, Participatory Learning, Post-assessment, and Summary, and integrated extracurricular activities such as field forage identification and visits to pastures and feed enterprises to establish a full-process teaching system. Students of Animal Science major from the 2021 cohort (control group, 90 students) and 2022 cohort (experimental group, 94 students) were selected as research subjects. The control group received conventional teaching, while the experimental group was taught using the constructed BOPPPS model. Teaching effectiveness was evaluated after the course concluded. Results showed that students in the experimental group were significantly better than those in the control group in pre-class learning enthusiasm, in-class participation, after-class learning initiative, and academic performance. In addition, 85% of students expressed strong interest in the course content. This paper provides a reference for the teaching reform of similar application-oriented courses.
