Abstract:Vasculardementia(VaD)isacommonneurodegenerativeclinicalsyndromecausedbycerebrovasculardiseases,characterizedbypathologicalchangessuchasbraintisuedamageandlocalizedcerebralbloodflowalterations,ultimatelyleadingtoem ryandcognitiedysfunction.AkeymechanismunderlyingtheonsetandprogresionofVaDivolves excitotoxicitymediatedbyNMDA receptors,whichrednselyisrbutedinteippcampalCAreginofthebrainDuringacutecerebralischemiaxcesieeleae of excitatoryaminoacidsactivatesNDAreceptors,trigeringcalciumoverloadandsubsequentnuroaldeathNotablythecyotoxic efectsinducdbyerebraliscemiaypoiasresimlariswithteoreconeptof“toxibstrutionofcollterals”ieTurbid ToxinTheoryof TraditionalChinese Medicine(TCM).Therefore,theTurbidToxinTheorycanberegardedasakeypathological frameworkforVaD.Therapeutically,applying turbidtoxin-resolvinganddetoxifying methodstoinhibit excitatoryaminoacid-induced cellular damage is critical for improving cognitive function and daily living abilities in VaD patients.
