Abstract：Theimbalance between pathological damage andregenerativerepairisanewunderstanding ofthe natureof deficiency syndrome，andthefivelosestherapeuticprincipleofNanjingdescribesthetreatmentmethodsfordeficiencysyndromeofthfiveviscera.Basedonthenewunderstandingofthenatureof deficiencysydrome，understandingthefivelosses therapeuticprinciplecan broadenthetreatmentmethodofdeficiencysyndrome，getoutof theshacklesof“treatdeficiencybytonification”，andrealizethatthe ultimategoalofdficiencysydrometreatmentistoreplenishthedeficiencyofthebodyshealthqitothenorallevel.Basednthe newunderstandingof thenatureofdeficiencysyndrome，regulating theflowandopeningupthesourceisthetherapeuticprincipleof deficiencysyndrome，regulatingtheflowtopreventandreducepathologicaldamage，openingupthesourceinordertopromoteregenerationadrepair．Therefore，tonifying methodofdeficiencysyndromeshouldbethe“complementarymethod”of“directtonifying”， “tonifyingbetweenviscus”，“preventpathological damage”and“reducepathologicaldamage”.Traditionaltonifying method should becombinedwithothertreatment methodssuchaslaxative methodandclearing methodinorder torealizetheultimate goalof“tonifying the deficiency”.
